Hideki Goto – Kiseto Shell-Shaped Sake Cup
This shell-shaped sake cup features an organic sculptural form covered with the soft yellow tone characteristic of Kiseto glaze, accompanied by delicate crackles that suggest the quiet breath of the clay. When held in the hand, its undulating contours gently engage the fingertips, harmonizing natural imagery with the artist’s refined sense of form.
The darker tones and subtle variations around the foot are the result of the firing process, revealing the nuanced interaction between clay and glaze. When filled with sake, the surface softly reflects light; even when empty, it holds a strong sculptural presence.
Balancing the spirit of wabi-sabi with a distinctly contemporary form, this work has gained strong appreciation not only in Japan but also among international collectors.
